Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad, at 2100m above sea level. Chembra is the tallest peak in Wayanad, with an altitude of 2100m, taller than Mullayangiri, the tallest in Karnataka. Chembra is located near the town of Meppady and is 14 km west of Kalpetta. It is part of the Wayanad hill ranges in Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamilnadu and Vellarimala in Kozhikode district in Kerala. Chembra peak is accessible by foot from Meppady. District Tourism Promotion Council provides guides and trekking equipments on hire charges to the tourists.. Permission from the forest office in Meppady is required for trekking up to the Chembra peak. A heart shaped lake en route to the top of the peak is a major tourist attraction. The lake is believed to have never dried up.Chembra is located near Meppadi (Meppady), 11kms off NH212 (Kollegal - Mysuru - Kozhikode). For people who prefer public transport, KSRTC (both Kerala & Karnataka) and a lot of private companies operate overnight deluxe and fast passenger buses between Kozhikode (aka Calicut) and Bengaluru. At Chundale (about 6kms past Kalpetta, 5 kms before Vythiri and 62kms before Kozhikode), one has to take a deviation to the left. People taking buses can get down at Kalpetta and catch another bus to Meppadi. Meppadi is 11kms from Chundale, in the SH29, connecting Chundale to the Tamil Nadu border and from there to Pandalur, Gudalur and Ooty.

A large part of the mountain is forest and a lot of animals including elephants, deers, leopards etc. Rest region has large grasslands, tea estates and human habitation. The grasslands are ideal places for camping. The District Tourism Promotion Council of Wayanad district arranges camping utilities and guides for trekkers. One needs to get trekking permission from Forest Depatment Office at Meppadi. There is no need to call early for permission. At the Forest Office you need to give your name and get a sealed permission which you have to show to an officer near a watch tower on the trek route. The trek starting point is an estate called Chembra estate.
